Barcelona have received a major double boost ahead of their LaLiga clash with Athletic Club, with both Lamine Yamal and Raphinha cleared to return just in time for the club’s long-awaited comeback at the newly refurbished Camp Nou.
Lamine Yamal, who was withdrawn from Spain’s squad earlier this month due to a recurring groin problem, has recovered well and is available for Saturday’s fixture. The 18-year-old has struggled with the same issue several times since September, but Hansi Flick confirmed he is now fit and ready.
“He has worked incredibly hard over the last two weeks,” Flick said on Friday. “I’m very happy with what I’ve seen from him.”
Raphinha, who has been sidelined since September with a hamstring injury, is also expected to feature. However, fellow forward Marcus Rashford remains a doubt after coming down with a fever.
Saturday’s match marks Barcelona’s first appearance at Camp Nou in two and a half years, with the stadium reopening at a reduced capacity as renovation work continues. Flick admitted the return has given the players and staff a significant lift.
“When we trained here on the 7th and I walked up the stairs onto the pitch, it was an unbelievable feeling,” he said. “Playing here again can give us a huge push. The fans know exactly when the team needs that extra energy.”
Barcelona spent the past two seasons at the Olympic Stadium, where Flick guided the club to the league title in his debut campaign.
Barca currently sit second in LaLiga, three points behind Real Madrid, and face a crucial Champions League trip to Chelsea on Tuesday as they look to climb from 11th place in their group.
